pH Miracle Diet

pH miracle diet basics

The pH Miracle diet is a new healthy diet plan with a number of unique benefits. Health experts have realized that dieting habits tend to come in waves. During the 90's the emphasis was on low fat dieting, the last 6 or 7 years have seen the low carb craze hit the dieting world with the likes of Atkins, Protein Power, South Beach diet and Sugarbusters. Typically when people become frustrated with the diet they are on, they look around for something new and hopefully better. The pH Miracle diet is the most recent focus for a lot of interest.

This diet has appealed to so many as it is a complete turn-around from the high protein, low carb diets people have been on in the last few years. The pH Miracle diet, also called the alkaline diet or the Young diet (after it's creator Robert Young) has a whole new approach to nutrition. Many holistic doctors, dieticians and nutritionists view this as a much better balanced approach to nutrition that is based on the true needs of the body.

The basis for the pH Miracle diet is that the human body has a pH that is slightly alkaline. The theory goes that as the body functions at this slightly alkaline level then our diet should comprise mostly alkaline foods. The standard American diet includes a lot of foods that are high in acidity like sugar, caffeine, packaged foods and animal protein. These foods and more can disrupt the body's pH balance and cause a whole lot of health problems. The proponents of the pH Miracle diet say that too many of these acidic foods can disrupt the body's use of alkaline minerals such as sodium, potassium, magnesium and calcium, which in turn can make people prone to various chronic diseases.

The nutrition and healthy eating community have begun to realize that what a person puts in to their body can have a real effect on how healthy they are overall. Of course, the mainstream medical community tries to emphasize a balanced diet of healthy food like fruits, vegetables, meats and dairy, the pH Miracle diet takes this on another step. It indicates that the acidic foods can in fact rob your body of essential minerals. The people who decide to follow the pH Miracle diet are avoiding all these foods that can have disastrous consequences for their health.

You will find that many of the foods forbidden on the pH Miracle diet are foods that we commonly eat. One of the most surprising no-no's is the family of wheat products. The FDA (food and drug administration) recommends eating whole wheat products for better health. Although according to the pH Miracle diet grains like wheat, oats, millet and rice are acidic and therefore potentially harmful. The alkaline grains of buckwheat, quinoa and spelt are preferred due to their alkalizing benefits.

Basically, all dairy and meats are avoided on the pH Miracle diet. If you are concerned about getting enough protein then goat’s milk is slightly alkaline. The vegetarian options can also provide some protein in the form of beans, tofu and certain nuts and seeds. Most vegetables are found to have alkalizing effects apart from mushrooms. Fruits available on the pH Miracle diet are limited to coconut, grapefruit lemon and lime.

People that have tried an alkaline diet say that they feel significant effects on their general health and well being in the first few weeks. Reducing the intake of processed foods and eating more vegetables is good health advice for anyone, whether they follow the specifications of this particular diet or not. This has in fact led to one major criticism of the pH Miracle diet, if people are already eating fresh foods and drinking plenty of water then this particular diet will surely have no effect? But by saying this, they are disregarding the acid/alkaline balance theory.

One other important point to consider is that no scientific evidence has been produced concerning the effects of pH Miracle diet and the theory behind it. Some medical doctors say they can see no real benefit to the program. The alkaline diet is based on principles of holistic and Chinese medicine, which have been used by millions for centuries. Currently there are ongoing studies of the pH Miracle diet at John Hopkins University and by Dr. Neil Solomon of the United Nations. It may be that critics of this healthy diet will soon have a scientific basis on which to re-evaluate their views.
